I always remember Coach Baker and his love for John Wayne.  He also hated anyone to pass notes, and I was caught more than once!  RIP Coach!

Gaylon George

I was sad to learn at our 40th reunion that Coach Baker was deceased.  I think of him often oddly enough.  He was such a colorful guy although I did not really reflect on that while he was coaching me.  Only years later when he would pop into my mind and I'd remember him saying things like, "Gaylon, you're not worth five yards" when I'd jump off sides during a game did I look back on those times fondly.  As I remember most of the time he was coaching us during line drills he'd have a chaw of tobacco in his mouth and if you did something he did not like you'd get your hand spit on.  It was kind of gross, but it was him.  When I think of those times I just smile and cheris that time.  I'm sad I never got back to see him after I played for him and it would have been fun to have seen him at one of our earlier reunions (that Iattended).
